To be delivered to: The Kansas State House, The Kansas State Senate and Governor Sam Brownback
“We the people of Kansas and U.S. citizens demand Governor's Brownback's accountability and acceptance of the HHS Federal Early Innovator Grant to create a Health Care Exchange System in Kansas, which was rejected by Gov. Brownback.”
Governor Sam Brownback recently returned a $31.5 million dollar federal grant to create a Kansas Health Care Exchange System. Kansas was chosen as an early innovator by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This grant's funding was long considered and the Kansas Insurance Commissioner had worked hard to begin a process to save all Kansans money in purchasing health insurance. Governor Brownback out of ideological and political beliefs rejected the federal monies allocated to Kansas.

I want the chance and the choice to participate in a health care exchange system. It is not right or fair for this governor to take away my rights.

So many of use work in jobs where quality heath insurance isn't available. If you knew what it was like to be one broken ankle or tailbone cyst away from poverty, Mr. Brownback, I think maybe you'd consider this option more seriously. I'm not going to try and tell you "Jesus would have accepted the grant," but I don't see how rejecting it helps anyone who isn't independently wealthy.
